Trek is one of the best companies that could offer just about anyone their choice of a mountain bike, whether they are shopping to buy for their very first one or they are biking enthusiasts looking for newer models to add on to their collection. Although there are many companies that offer mountain bikes, the Trek mountain bikes are really among the most trusted cycling machines that are depended on by a great number of experienced bikers.

Trek is known to be the creator of a wide choice of mountain bikes. The Trek 6500 and the Trek 820 are the company’s most popular and perceived to be among the best mountain bikes. If anyone will look at the wide range of choices of Trek mountain bikes, then he or she will probably get muddled up as to what they will end up buying. However, if they will just take the time to examine and look into these bikes before they actually buy them, then they will get to know what they want in just a matter of time. If they are serious bikers, then they would probably have a clear idea on what suits them and what could provide them with the support and power that they need. But, if they are shopping for mountain bikes for the first time, then they would probably need extra time to do their homework to make the best choice.

One of the best Trek mountain bikes is the Trek 820, which is known to be the mountain bike for all-around use. Having a frame of high-tensile steel, this bile allows anyone to have an upright position that is comfortable for biking. A great value for anyone’s money, this bike is excellent for all terrain types and is perfect for those bikes rides that will take anyone from sun-up to sundown to complete. While another great mountain bike from Trek is the Trek 6500, the Trek 3700 is also another model that is worth looking into. This mountain bike with its aluminum frame is perfect for those trails and tarmac bike rides. Its RST suspension form lets any biker enjoy his ride in a comfortable way. Both male and female bikers would find this bike suitable for them.

Among the primary things that anyone should always remember about Trek mountain bikes they do not only offer outstanding support to a biker but also utmost comfort as well. This is one great factor that anyone should consider when it comes to looking for and buying a mountain bike. While there are a lot of companies now that offer different varieties of mountain bikes, if it is quality, reliability and reasonable prices that anyone is looking for, then Trek is definitely among the companies that can be trusted to provide all these and more.

The market is witnessing a flurry of new product launches, each with its own unique selling proposition. It is becoming increasingly tougher for a beginner to figure out which bike will best serve his requirements. Interestingly, mountain bikers have a huge presence on the World Wide Web. Specialized magazines on mountain bikes and mountain biking as a sport are available as well.

Mountain biking websites and magazines provide a wonderful variety of information for all types of mountain bikers, ranging from the seasoned professionals to beginners. Most websites and magazines review the latest bikes and also offer a data bank of information with details about available bike models, prices and user comments. Each website or magazine usually has its own criteria for judging a bike. Besides the basic description of the bike and its parts, reviews contain a detailed analysis of all the features of a bike. New bikes are test ridden by experts and the test results are published for the benefit of consumers. Often websites and magazines compare a number of bikes on key criteria and provide ratings along with their recommendations. This can be a big help to anyone interested in purchasing a bike.

Forums are an important part of mountain biking websites because they allow users to post their experiences, reviews as well as their complaints. Reading these posts can be an educating experience; the sheer number of posts on almost all topics related to mountain bikes is simply mind boggling.

Some of the mountain bikes that have recently received good reviews include the Mongoose Tech 4 Full Suspension Men’s Mountain Bike, the 2005 Iron Horse Warrior Elite Mountain Bike with dual suspension, the Honda 26 In Dual Suspension Mountain Bike and the Schwinn 26″ Men’s Aluminum Comp Mountain Bike.

Mountain bike riders must have shock system type of bikes that include full suspension and hard tail and even no suspension. The shock system is important as because it helps to absorb the impact over rugged terrain that provide a smoother ride. Full suspension bikes got suspension in both the front and the rear of the bike. Hard tail bikes have solid rear fork and shock system in place of the front fork. Mountain bikes with lower end models do not have a shock system in the front or in the back of the bike.

Types of Mountain Bikes to Enjoy

Mountain bikes for cross-country riders are ideal for small to moderate train and they got both climbing and descending capabilities as well. The travel in the rear suspension system is less than four inches that does not hinder the ability to climb hills. The standard numbers of gears on cross-country bikes are 28 providing a wide range of gears suitable for the traveling over varied terrain. In mountain bikes, trail bikes are more substantial than cross country bikes as they are intended for use for more technical mountain bike rides. The travel in suspension systems used on these bikes ranges is from 4-7 inches. This increased travel allows for a very smoother ride but makes pedaling uphill more difficult too.

Mountain bikers have to weigh the decreased pedal efficiency versus a smoother ride. The down hill mountain bikes detailed with the front and rear shock that have up to eight inches of travel. These bikes are specifically designed to do downhill racing. The amount of travel in the suspension systems makes it difficult to pedal uphill, for this reason these bikes are used almost exclusively for the downhill races where the shock systems allows smooth possible ride over harsh terrain at high speeds also. Dirt jump bikes are one more verity in mountain bikes, which have only a front suspension system and used for flying over jumps.

They have 16 gears in these bikes which allows the rider to build up the speed they need while making jumps.

When mountain bikes first began to become popular is quite common to hear both non-cyclists and people who had been riding road bikes for years asking why. After all, except for the most expensive models, mountains bikes are often quite heavy and clunky, and besides, (with a few exceptions), most cities are not known for containing mountains!

However, mountain bikes turn out to be ideal for many commuters. Although heavy, they are also robust and sturdy, and therefore stand up well to city riding. Additionally, many people find mountain bikes easier to ride than road bikes, because mountain bikes have gears and brakes that can be accessed without taking your hands off the grips.

Of course, there are things about mountain bikes which aren’t ideal for urban use. Big chunky tyres designed for muddy tracks are not the best for city streets, a gear range designed for steep mountain slopes may not ideal for urban areas, and although city cycling can be tough on a bike, it’s not nearly as tough as riding on a mountain - and hence frames can be overly strong (and hence heavy). If you feel strongly about these things, perhaps you ought to consider a hybrid bike, whih has many of advantages of a mountain bike, but is more adapted to the urban environment.

On the other hand of course there are advantages to mountain bikes, and their extra strength is a positive boon if you find yourself carrying a lot of weight on your bike. Furthermore, after you have started riding a mountain during your regular commute to work, you may eventually be tempted to try the off-road experience at weekends.

Mountain biking has changed drastically since its origin, so have the bikes. New feature have been added to meet the growing challenges of the sport. Ultra light bikes, hi-tech gears and suspension have become the need of the day to increase efficiency of the bike and the rider.

Investing in a good mountain bike

Selecting a good quality mountain bike is the most important step in mountain biking. Although it is comparatively more expensive than ordinary bikes, buying a good bike is a must considering the hardships it will be subjected to while venturing out on the hill slopes. These bikes are specially designed to endure a lot of pounding in the process. They are fitted with special tires and suspensions to reduce the stress on the rider and the bike and make the ride comparatively smoother.

Todays Standard Equipment includes front wheel suspension by default.

Now a days more and more bikers are opting for dual suspension bikes, as they are definitely more comfortable than single suspension bike. Similarly bikes with large wheels are also gaining popularity compared to bikes with smaller tires and riser handlebars. Some bikes also have handle bars tha have bar ends for better support.

Basically four categories of Mountain bikes are available in the market. The four categories are A) The fully rigid bike: - these bikes have a fixed rare, no suspensions and have a frame with a fixed fork. B) the Hard tail bike :- it is similar to the fully rigid bike, the only difference is the suspension in the front wheel. C) the Soft tail bike :- it has a frame that offers rear suspension to a certain extent, which is activated by flexing the frame. Pivots are not used here and D) the full or dual suspension bike: - they have suspension fitted on both the front and the rear wheel and pivots are used to move the rear wheel.

Mountain bikes are available in many designs for e.g. cross country (XC), endure/all mountains (AM), free ride (FR), dirt jumping - urban and street, trial, downhill (DH) single speed, and 4-cross racing. The design basically depends on the type of route it’s going to be used on.

Mountain biking is reaching new heights today with competitions becoming more and more aggressive. The modern day bikes have been specially modified to suit the rider’s requirements. Now a days Mountain bikes have aerodynamic frames - these are lighter but yet very strong. They are fitted with three gears on the front wheel while the next few would be on the back wheel and have speeds varying from 21, 24 even up to 27.

Mountain biking is a sport that involves riding bicycles off paved roads. It is an activity that is gaining popularity all over the world since it is does not require any special skills other than being able to ride a bicycle and can be done anywhere.

A mountain bike is a sturdy bicycle with a strong frame, wide tires, gears and horizontal handlebars. This bike has special tires that are fat and knobby, providing the extra traction that is required for dirt trails and unpaved terrain. Though called mountain bikes, these bicycles are often used for off-road cycling and can be ridden cross country, on gravel roads and even on dirt trails.

People use mountain bikes for several purposes including trailing, dirt jumping and street-urban riding, but the most popular versions of mountain biking are down-hilling, cross-country and free riding. Apart from a few common features, the specifications for mountain bikes differ, depending upon the activities that the bike is primarily designed for. For example, a cross-country mountain bike normally weighs between 20 to 30 pounds and is lighter than bikes designed for down-hilling and free riding. Mountain bikes can also be ordered online.

Although bicycles have been used since the time they were invented, the first specialized mountain bike was built by Joe Breeze in 1977. The first regularly available mountain bike frame was built by Tom Ritchey, with accessories being built by Gary Fisher and Charlie Kelly. These bikes were sold by their company called MountainBikes, later renamed Gary Fisher Bicycle Company. It wasn’t until 1982 that the first mass produced mountain bikes were sold. These were called the Specialized Stumpjumper and Univega Alpina Pro. A huge range of mountain bikes with specialized features are now available to cater to the ever growing population of mountain bikers.

If you plan to buy a mountain bike in the near future, there are several factors you will need to take into consideration. One of the most important factors of choosing a mountain bike is what you are going to be using the mountain bike for.

For example, the most avid mountain bikers, as the name implies, like to take their mountain bikes to rugged and rocky mountain terrain. Other mountain bikers prefer unpaved roads and trails, while other mountain bike enthusiasts stick to paved roads and bike paths.

There is a direct correlation to kind of riding you will do and the type of mountain bike you should buy. Three things to pay special attention to are the mountain bike’s tires, the mountain bike’s forks, and the mountain bike’s saddle.

Mountain Bike Forks

There are different types of mountain bike forks, but the main thing you want to look for are shocks. Mountain bikes with shocks will generally be more comfortable to ride than those that do not have shocks, and will also be better equipped to go over rougher terrain. Mountain bikes without shocks will have a more rigid feel to them, but you may find that these bikes are built more for speed than mountain bikes without shocks.

Mountain Bike Saddles

Some saddles are very light weight and do not offer a lot of padding. Some saddles are heavier and offer a lot of cushioning. Generally, mountain bikes that have saddles without a lot of padding are more high performance oriented, while those that have more cushioning in the saddle are designed for leisurely riding. Some mountain bikes also have shock absorbent seat posts.

If you find that you like a higher performance mountain bike better than a mountain bike that is designed for comfort, but do not like the saddle, keep in mind that you can always switch the saddle out for a more comfortable one.

Mountain Bike Tires

When you buy a mountain bike, take a look at the tires. Do you plan to ride on very rugged terrain? Then make sure the tires are wide, a little bulky, and provides lots of traction. Do you plan on riding only on pavement? Then stick with a tire that is a little narrower and smoother, but provides a little bit of traction. This doesn’t mean that you can’t use a tire with a lot of traction on pavement, but you will get more speed with a smoother tire.

These are just a few basic things to look for in a mountain bike. Ultimately, buy a mountain bike that you enjoy riding…you will probably be riding the mountain bike you purchase for the next 5 or 10 years!

An average mountain bike has several additional features compared to a regular bicycle. These include larger number of gears, knobby tires, a wider handle bar and often some form of suspension for the tires. A mountain bike skeleton is called a chassis, a term that refers to the frame, fork and suspension as one unit. A chassis is generally constructed using lightweight materials such as carbon fiber.

These bikes are often equipped with a large number of gears, with some models being equipped with as many as 27 gears. The lower range of gears helps mountain bikers climb steep hills or obstacles. Mountain bikes use sprocket technology that makes changing gears easier, and shift levers that automatically move up or down, one gear at a time.

A mountain bike usually has both a front and a rear suspension. The suspension acts as a shock absorber for both the rider and the bike. Based on the type of suspension, mountain bikes can be classified into three main categories: Hardtail (frame with no rear suspension, often has a front suspension fork), Fully Rigid (sub-type of hardtail, with a rigid fork) and Dual or Full suspension (front suspension fork and rear suspension integrated into the frame).

Some mountain bikes may also be fitted with bar ends on the handlebars, especially in the case of flat straight handles bars. However, with an increasing preference for riser handlebars, bar end extensions are being used in smaller numbers. These bikes are commonly available with a wheel size of 26 inches (660 mm). Recently, larger wheel sizes of 29 inches (737 mm) have also been introduced. The larger wheels usually roll better over obstacles, but they reduce the maneuverability of the bike.

While a variation of the cantilever brakes is found on most mountain bikes, some of these, especially those with suspension systems, have disc brakes. With a large choice in parts available for mountain bikes, it is important to research your requirements, before shopping around to get the best prices.
